Dans La Maison - Francois Ozon

Scripted by the director, the film opens with a French teacher who is feeling disheartened by his new pupils’ schoolwork. But one of them, who prefers to keep a low profile in the last row, shows a sharp sense of observation, and even subtle voyeurism. He also interests one of his classmates whose family exerts a strange fascination over him.

Encouraged by the teacher, he continues to write a serialised essay, delving into the world of this family, and that of the teacher. In a subtle game, reality and fiction become entangled to the point of merging. But what dark intentions is this young man hiding and how far will he go with his scheming? Dans La Maison is produced by Eric and Nicolas Altmayer for Mandarin Cinéma (collaborating with Ozon for the second time after Potiche) for around €9.2m. The budget includes co-production support from France 2 Cinéma and Mars Films (who will release the film in France on December 13, 2012), and pre-acquisitions from Canal+ and Ciné+. International sales are being handled by Wild Bunch. Mandarin Cinéma has also clocked up 716,000 admissions in France this year with The Conquest [trailer] (unveiled out of competition at Cannes) and currently has A Happy Event [trailer] in theatres.
